Spyro: A Realm Beyond — FAQ

Every quick question we keep seeing, answered from confirmed information only. Where the honest answer is "not announced yet," we say exactly that — and update when it changes.

Is it a remake or a new game?

A brand-new game. It's the 12th mainline Spyro title and the first all-new entry in 21 years (since Shadow Legacy, 2005). It is not a remaster and not connected to the Reignited Trilogy remakes beyond sharing developer Toys for Bob. (Full comparison)

When does it come out?

Spring 2027 — no exact date yet. (Release date page)

What platforms is it on?

Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, PC (Steam + Xbox PC), and Xbox Cloud. (Platforms page)

Is it on Game Pass?

Yes, day one. (Game Pass details)

Is it open world?

Not announced. The developers describe a world "built around" free flight where you "carve your path through the skies" — which implies large traversable spaces — but no one has used the words "open world," and the structure (one seamless map vs. hub-and-realms) hasn't been revealed. We'd rather leave this unanswered than guess. (Gameplay analysis)

Is there multiplayer or co-op?

Nothing announced. All footage and official copy describe a single-player adventure. If any co-op or multiplayer mode exists, it has not been mentioned.

How much will it cost?

Not announced. No price, no editions, no pre-order details yet. (Pre-order tracker) Remember it's playable at no extra cost via Game Pass on Xbox/PC.

Who's making it?

Toys for Bob — the studio behind Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot 4 — published by Activision under Microsoft. (Developer page)

Is Tom Kenny voicing Spyro again?

Yes, confirmed. (Tom Kenny page)

Who are the villains?

A new invading force called the Scavs. (Everything known)

Do I need to play the old games first?

No. It's a standalone story: Spyro stranded in an all-new realm with new allies. (Story page)

Will my favorite classic character appear?

Unknown. Only Spyro and Sparx are confirmed. Sites listing classic characters (Elora, Hunter, etc.) or classic world names for this game are recycling 1998 content, not reporting news. (Characters hub)
