Spyro: A Realm Beyond — Story & Setting

The confirmed premise: Spyro finds himself stranded in an unfamiliar realm. His journey to discover a way home is interrupted by the arrival of a vicious invading force known as the Scavs — and Spyro must make new allies and rise to protect this realm before it's changed forever.

That's the official setup in full. It's three sentences, and this page will grow as story details are revealed — but those three sentences already tell us a lot.

What the premise establishes

A stranger in a strange land. Spyro isn't defending the Dragon Realms this time; he's far from home in a place that owes him nothing. That framing explains the trailer's all-new environments — none of the classic worlds appear — and the emphasis on new allies suggests a largely new supporting cast around returning companion Sparx. An invasion plot with a defense arc. The Scavs arrive as outsiders too — invaders threatening to change the realm "forever." Spyro defending a world that isn't his own is a meaningfully different emotional spine than the homeland-defense plots of the classics. What little is known about the invaders is collected on the Scavs page.

A journey-home throughline. "Discovering a way home" gives the adventure a built-in long-term goal beyond beating back the invasion — classic stranded-hero structure.

Where it sits in the series

A Realm Beyond is the 12th main Spyro game and the first all-new entry since Spyro: Shadow Legacy (2005). Toys for Bob — the studio behind the 2018 Reignited Trilogy remakes — develops, with Tom Kenny returning as Spyro's voice. The game is presented as a fresh standalone continuity: you will not need to have played any previous Spyro game to follow it. Returning characters beyond Spyro and Sparx are not confirmed — any list naming Elora, Hunter, or other classic characters for this game is fabricated. (Why we keep saying that)

What we don't know yet

Developers have said they want "radically joyful, colorful" experiences, which strongly suggests the series' light adventurous tone survives the higher-stakes premise.
