A Realm Beyond vs. Reignited Trilogy

The one-line answer: Reignited was a remake of where Spyro had been; A Realm Beyond is the first new place he's gone in 21 years. Same studio (Toys for Bob), same voice (Tom Kenny), completely different proposition.

The deeper difference: restoration vs. invention

Reignited's job was fidelity — rebuild beloved levels exactly as memory insists they looked. Its design questions were already answered in 1998. A Realm Beyond's job is the opposite: every system, world, and character beyond the hero is being invented, and the flight-first design means even the core verb set is new. The studio has framed it as the project they've wanted since the 2018 Reignited days.

What carries over (the continuity that matters)

Should you play Reignited first?

Not required. A Realm Beyond is a standalone story in a new realm — no prior knowledge needed. But if you want context for who Spyro is (and 25 hours of excellent platforming), Reignited remains the best on-ramp and is widely available on current platforms via backward compatibility.

Mini FAQ

Is A Realm Beyond a sequel to the trilogy? It's a new standalone continuity rather than a direct numbered sequel — think "new era," not "Spyro 4."

Will classic characters return? Unconfirmed beyond Spyro and Sparx — claims otherwise are recycled old content.
